The Return of Michelle Yeoh!!!!!!!!

Believe it or not one of your humble editors here at the ArsonPlus Entertaimnet preview blog just happens to read (and speak) French and according to sources in France (read: their version of Entertainment Tonight) Michelle Yeoh (yes that Michelle Yeoh) is in negotiations to star opposite Vin Diesel (yes that Vin Diesel) and the luckiest man on earth himself . . . Vincent Cassel in Mathieu Kassovitz's upcoming sci-fi/action film "Babylon A.D." The film, inspired by Maurice G. Dantec's novel "Babylon Babies" . . . set in a near future rife with genetic manipulation where a hard-boiled leatherneck mercenary veteran of Sarajevo named Toorop (Diesel presumably) is hired by mysterious persons to escort a young woman, named Marie--whos's carrying a genetically modified embryo an American cult wants to produce a genetically modified Messiah with, from Russia to either Canada or China (hey, we've read both).

Michelle is perportedly considering the role of "Sister Helen" (but unfortunately, as the editor in question has not finished reading Babylon Babies yet, we have no idea whether or not the part will call on Yeohs legendary butt-kicking skills). Babylon A.D. is set to begin filming in Prague this November--and coincidentaly enough the Czech Republic is a dead ringer for both Russia and Canada but not at all like China, so that's probably that.

Babylon A.D. is set to be released by Twentieth Century Fox in 2007.

I'm sorry if I'm not on top of movie (excuse me, film) news, but I can't help but asking, is she naked in that picture.

And I thought this blog was going to have standards. Go figure.

Maybe you can find some news on Monica Bellucci next? Please?

Ms Michelle Yeoh does indeed appear to be wearing a small rap of some kind, a Brazillian bikini perchance.

O' and indirectly, the "news" item did concern Monica Belluccu, I think Cassel was refered to as the "luckiest man on earth) because he is married to Monica Bellucci

That Tim Burton is a pretty lucky one as well.

I went and looked up some stuff on Kassovitz, now I'm hyped about Babylon AD.
Kassovitz has a number of artistic and commercial successes under his belt. He wrote and directed 1995's La Haine (sort of s French Do the Right Thing by way of a dark urban thriller), for which he won a Cesar Award (for Best Film) and a Best Director prize from the Cannes Film Festival. In the U.S. he's probably better known as the mastermind behind 2000's Les Rivières Pourpres (that's The Crimson Rivers to all us non Franco-philes), the action slash French national guilt over the Vichy regime oriented police detective thrill-ride starring Monsieur coolness himself, Jean Reno (Leon: The Professional, Ronin, Wasabi, Le Femme Nikita) and Mister Monica Bellucci himself Vincent Cassel, (Brotherhood of the Wolf, Irreversible). But on a sour note, Kassovitz also helmed 2003's misguided Halle Berry slash Penelope Cruz vehicle horror thriller vehicle Gothika.

You were more right than you know. I just read that Michelle Yeoh is going to be making a film set at the North Pole called "True North." It was apparently based on Sara Maitland's (Daughters of Jerusalem) short story of the same name. The Warrior's Asif Kapadia (has signed on as director and the script came courtesy of Kapadia and his Warrior cohort Tim Miller. Besides Michelle, the cast of True North will include Sean Bean, Michelle Krusiec (Yang Yahui), and Irrfan Khan.

True North will apparently film in Svalbard (Norway) during September then move to the Film Camp in Malselv this October. No word on how much butt-kicking th tale will call for

I remember a bit in Irma Vep where an unfrench person in France was talking with a native about film. The native Frenchman was talking about how action movies were where it was at, stuff for the masses. At the time I didn't think I would ever be wondering whether the French would outdo hollywood on that sort of stuff.

That it is even reasonably debatable is something of a surprise to me. Of course, I'm not much of an expert on this stuff, so please be gentle if you feel the need to contradict.

Just thought I should or rather could add to the Michelle Yeoh news by mentioning Children of Huang Shi (a.k.a. The Bitter Sea): a $2 million Hong Kong slash Taiwanese cp-production, set to star The Mummy's Brendan Fraser, The Killer himself Chow Yun-Fat and of course the queen of all women, the incomparable Michelle Yeoh. Filming on The Bitter Sea is due to start around the end of 2006. (Michelle's gonna be busy), O' and just for funChildren of Huang Shi will be filmed in English

That's all I got guys. Have Goood one's

Whoah, "Queen of All Women." Pretty powerful statement, boys. Michelle Yeoh does kick a helluva lotta cinematic ass--she's the only woman Jackie Chan will "let" do her own stunts on their collaborations. However, she is first and foremost a dancer and not a formally trained martial artist. Would you still think she was queen if she could REALLY kick your butts?
